Coating TiC or TiO2 shells on ceramic core particles

Carbon film can be easily deposited on the surfaces of most kinds of ceramics, such as ZrO2, Al2O3, TiO2, etc. by CVD method. The deposited carbon films basically have amorphous structures. On the other hand, we have developed a technique for highly doping Ti into amorphous carbon to form TiC film from amorphous carbon. Furthermore by heating TiC film in atmosphere, TiO2 film can be achieved.

By combination of the above-described techniques, TiC film or TiO2 film can be formed on the ceramics particles, and unique material with a shell/core structure can be achieved, from which new function may be discovered.
